Fertile Brainsoil Band Merchandise
Attention, please put on your 3D glasses now! This graphic, created for my progressive rock band Fertile Brainsoil, was intended for print on t-shirts, posters, and other merchandise. The stereoscopic composite is best viewed using red/green anaglyph 3D glasses.
The microscopic photography was produced by scanning a neuron in slices using a Confocal Laser Scanning Microscope (provided by the MSU Center for Advanced Microscopy). This produced a series of 2-dimensional images that were overlaid with a z-offset to create depth. The 3D model was then rotated slightly to two different angles to produce a stereoscopic image.
On the macroscopic level, the angle of separation was replicated with a physical camera in relation to the subject. When the images were combined, the 3D effect only needed some minor tweaking for good results.
When used with a red and green color filter, the 3D image becomes visible. Use the red filter on the left eye.
Posters were distributed with 3D glasses. Before t-shirt printing, the design was reduced to one color for cost reasons and ease of screen-printing. See the results below.
